What is Tether (SEPA)

SEPA is the scheme euro-area banks use to move euros, and it is how the proceeds of a Tether sale reach your account. Banxa buys your USDT at a quoted rate and sends euros on as an ordinary credit transfer. Because USDT tracks the dollar, a currency conversion sits inside this trade.

The euros land in a euro account held in your own name and matching your verified Banxa details. A payout aimed at a business account, or at an account in another person's name, is rejected by the receiving bank. This single check is behind most failed cash-outs.

USDT is issued across many networks, and which of them you can sell from depends on where you are. BNB Smart Chain, Ethereum, Tron, Solana and Polygon are commonly available for selling, while some versions are restricted in parts of Europe. The restriction attaches to the coin and network together, not to Tether as a whole, so the only reliable list is the one shown on the quote screen for your own sale.

Two clocks follow. Network confirmation varies with the chain you chose, from seconds on Tron or Solana to minutes on Ethereum. SEPA settlement then takes one to three business days and is the larger share of the wait. Weekends and public holidays do not count, so a Friday sale commonly lands mid the following week.

Cost is carried in the rate rather than itemised, and two components sit inside it: the spread on the sale, and the conversion from dollars to euros. The network fee to move the USDT is separate and paid on the crypto side, where the difference between Tron and Ethereum is large.

Per-transaction ceilings and rolling cumulative limits apply, and passing one generally triggers further checks rather than a refusal. Your thresholds appear at quote time and track your verification level and country. Stablecoin sales tend to be larger than sales of volatile assets, so sellers meet these ceilings sooner than they expect to.

A first sale brings an identity check regardless of buying history. Stablecoin cash-outs attract source-of-funds questions at lower amounts than volatile assets do, because the sums are often round and the pattern resembles a payment rather than an investment exit. A prompt answer keeps the payout short.

Failures split between the two sides. On the bank side: wrong IBAN, closed account, name mismatch, each returning the money over several days as euros. On the crypto side: sending on a network the quote did not offer, which is the expensive error and rarely reversible.

Once the USDT reaches Banxa's address it is settled on-chain and cannot be recalled, so only the euro leg remains correctable after that point.

Holding a dollar stablecoin does not remove exchange-rate exposure from a euro cash-out, it moves it to the front. The euro figure is fixed when you accept the quote, using that moment's dollar rate, and then you wait days for the money on terms already agreed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Commonly BNB Smart Chain, Ethereum, Tron, Solana and Polygon, though availability is set per network and per country rather than for Tether as a whole. Some versions are restricted across parts of Europe. The networks offered on your quote screen are the authoritative list for your own sale.

USDT follows the US dollar, so selling into euros involves a conversion. Your quote already contains both that conversion and the spread on the sale, which is why it will not equal a dollar-to-euro figure you calculate elsewhere. The number shown before you confirm is what arrives.

On network fees, usually by a wide margin, and that difference is real money on a large transfer. It changes nothing about the euro leg: the spread inside your quote and the one to three business day SEPA settlement apply whichever network you send from.
