What is Tether (NPP Direct Entry)
Selling into Australian dollars produces a bank transfer addressed by BSB and account number, and two networks can carry it. The New Payments Platform settles in close to real time and runs at any hour; the older direct entry system clears on business days. The route is decided upstream, so allow for either.
The network you send on matters more than the amount for most sellers. USDT is issued across many chains and which of them can be sold from depends on where you are, because the restriction attaches to the coin and network together rather than to Tether as a whole. The list on your own quote screen is the only reliable guide.
Payment goes to an Australian dollar account in your own name, addressed by a six-digit BSB for the bank and branch plus the account number. Getting the account number wrong is the more troublesome error, because the transfer can land in a genuine account rather than bouncing back.
Routing runs on those digits rather than on the account name, which means the requirement that the destination be your own account is enforced by Banxa before sending rather than caught by the bank on arrival.
Two clocks run in order. Confirmation depends on the chain you sent from, anywhere between a few seconds and several minutes, and the banking leg afterwards takes moments. The blockchain is therefore the slower half by a wide margin.
That range matters more than it might sound. Routed one way the money arrives within minutes at any hour; routed the other it clears across business days, so a Saturday sale can wait until Monday or later. The difference is invisible at the point of sale, so build in the slower case where a date is fixed.
Australian banks apply their own ceilings on faster transfers, separate from anything set at the Banxa end, so a large cash-out can meet the bank's limit before ours. Those ceilings are usually adjustable in online banking, and worth checking before a sizeable sale rather than during one.
Cost sits inside the quoted rate rather than on a separate line, holding the spread and the conversion from US dollars into Australian dollars. That conversion is a real component here, because the token targets a US dollar while the payout is in Australian dollars.
Limits apply per transaction and across rolling periods, varying with verification level and location, and a first cash-out normally brings an identity check even for an established buyer. On the crypto side, sending on a chain the quote did not offer is the expensive error here and is rarely reversible, which makes the network choice worth more attention than the bank details.
Once the USDT reaches Banxa's address it is settled on whichever chain you used and cannot be recalled. A payment sent to a wrong but valid Australian account can only be pursued through your bank's tracing process, which is slower than getting the BSB and account number right first time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Whichever one your quote screen offers for your location. Tether exists on many chains and sell support varies by chain and country together, not by the token alone. Sending on a network the quote did not list is the costly error here, because those funds usually cannot be recovered or processed against your sale.
Yes. The token aims at one US dollar and the payout is in Australian dollars, so an exchange rate sits inside the quoted figure alongside the spread. The number shown before you confirm is what reaches your account, so comparing it against the market rate is how you see the full cost.
It depends which network carries it, and that is not something you choose. Over the New Payments Platform the money can arrive within minutes at any hour, weekends included. Over the older direct entry system it clears on a business-day cycle instead, skipping weekends and public holidays. Plan for the slower route if a date matters.
