Selling Polygon in France
Selling Polygon (POL, formerly MATIC) in France follows the French capital gains framework, with the migration as the practical wrinkle.
Mechanics. Send POL or MATIC to a regulated platform, complete identity verification under MiCA and French AML rules, agree on the sell rate in euros, choose a payout. The MATIC-to-POL migration ran through 2024-25 with one-to-one conversion. Most regulated platforms now require POL. Banxa accepts both during the transition window per regional rules.
Polygon is technically several chains (PoS, zkEVM, AggLayer); the chain matters for the deposit address. Network fees on PoS are fractions of a cent. SEPA bank transfer is the default.
French income tax. Under article 150 VH bis CGI, capital gains from occasional POL disposals are generally subject to the PFU at a rate of 30%. The MATIC-to-POL migration's tax treatment in France has not received specific guidance from French tax authorities; under broader principles, one-to-one conversions may be treated as preserving original cost basis, but this is fact-specific. This is general information, not tax advice.
Regulatory framework. AMF supervises in France; MiCA applies EU-wide. Banxa Europe IV BV (EUIV) services French customers under MiCA.
Important information for retail customers in the EU. Crypto-assets are not deposits and are not covered by deposit-guarantee schemes. Authorisation of crypto-asset service providers under MiCA does not constitute an investor-compensation scheme and does not protect against price losses. Crypto prices can fall sharply, including to zero in some assets, and you can lose the full amount invested. Settlement of any sell order depends on identity verification, payment processing, and blockchain confirmation. The tax information on this page is general only and is not tax advice; rules depend on individual circumstances and may change. The Dutch financial markets authority (AFM) publishes consumer-facing information on crypto-asset risks for EU retail clients.

Frequently Asked Questions
Send your MATIC on the exact network the sell flow names, wait the short moment Polygon needs to settle (fees are typically cents), and the sale goes through at your accepted price. Your euros then leave by SEPA and normally reach a French bank account within one business day. Polygon runs more than one chain, so treat the network label on the deposit screen as gospel.
Polygon's token migration means many venues now quote the asset as POL; the sell screen shows exactly which asset and network it expects, so follow that rather than guessing. You will also need the tokens in a wallet you can send from, a one-time identity verification with photo ID (minutes, not repeated for returning customers) and a euro bank account carrying your own verified name.
Rank the suspects. A transfer sent on the wrong Polygon chain will not arrive at all, so confirm the network first; the transaction hash on a Polygon explorer tells you where things stand. After that it is usually bank timing, since standard SEPA settles within a business day and idles at weekends, or a name mismatch between the payout account and your verified ID. Limits per sale depend on verification level, shown upfront.
