What is Polygon (ACH)

ACH is the batch network American banks use to move dollars between accounts, and it is the standard route out of a crypto sale. Selling Polygon through it means Banxa buys your POL at a quoted rate and releases the dollars into the next outgoing file.

The network question matters more here than the amount, and getting it wrong is the costly mistake on this page. POL exists both on the Polygon network and as a token on Ethereum, and selling is supported from the Polygon network. A balance sitting on Ethereum mainnet is not the same deposit as far as your quote is concerned, so bridge it across before you sell rather than sending funds that cannot be processed.

The name is worth a sentence too, because holders who have been away still think in terms of MATIC. The token was renamed POL during the Polygon 2.0 migration and balances carried across one for one. A wallet still showing MATIC is showing the same asset under its former label.

Dollars arrive in a US checking or savings account held in your own name, addressed by routing number and account number rather than by IBAN. An account number typo is the more troublesome error of the two, because the credit often reaches a real account instead of failing cleanly.

Names get little scrutiny on this network. Credits post against the account number and many receiving banks never compare the name attached, which means the requirement that the account be yours comes from Banxa rather than the rail, and is checked before the file goes out.

Two clocks then run in order. Polygon produces blocks every couple of seconds and fees run to a fraction of a cent, so confirmation is quick and cheap. The dollar clock starts only once that is done, and it carries almost the whole wait.

ACH does not move continuously. Payments are gathered into batches and released in scheduled windows, so a sale confirming just after a cut-off waits for the next one. One to three business days is the quoted range, with Federal Reserve holidays closing the network as weekends do.

The rail's own failure mode arrives after the money does. A credit can post to your account and be pulled back days later if the receiving bank rejects it, most often over a wrong account number or an account that had closed, so arrival is not the same as completion.

Cost sits inside the quoted rate rather than on a separate fee line, and the dollar figure shown before you confirm is what reaches the account. Limits apply per transaction and across rolling periods, varying with verification level and location, and a first sale usually brings an identity check.

Once the POL reaches Banxa's address it has settled on Polygon and cannot be recalled, which leaves the recovery boundary entirely on the dollar side. Availability also differs by state rather than applying uniformly across the country, so the quote screen is the guide that matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The token was renamed POL as part of the Polygon 2.0 migration, and balances carried over one for one. Wallets, charts and smaller venues that have not updated their labels still show the old ticker, but it describes this same asset. Price history from before the migration refers to it as well.

It matters a great deal. Selling is supported from the Polygon network, and POL held as a token on Ethereum mainnet is a different deposit as far as your quote is concerned. Bridge it across first. Sending from the wrong network is the expensive error here and is rarely straightforward to undo.

Yes. ACH lets a receiving bank send a credit back after it has posted, typically within a couple of banking days, usually because the account number was wrong or the account had closed. Rails that refuse payments up front do not behave this way, so treat the first arrival as provisional.
