What is Ethereum (NPP Direct Entry)

Cashing out to Australian dollars means a bank transfer to a BSB and account number. Two networks stand behind these: the New Payments Platform settles within minutes and operates outside banking hours, while the older direct entry system clears on a business-day cycle. You do not choose between them, so treat a fast payout as likely rather than certain.

The Australian dollars go to an account in your own name, identified by a BSB and an account number. The BSB is six digits naming the bank and the branch, with the account number after it. A slip in the account number is the more troublesome error, because the money can reach a real account rather than bouncing.

There is a detail on the Ethereum side that catches sellers emptying a wallet. Gas is paid in ETH, so a balance sent down to the last unit has nothing left to cover the fee and the transaction will not go through. Keep a margin back, and keep more of one when the network is busy, since the fee moves with demand.

Since the transfer follows the digits rather than the account name, the restriction to your own account is Banxa's rather than the bank's. It is applied before the payment is released, so a payout aimed elsewhere is refused at our end rather than at the receiving one.

Two clocks then run in order. Ethereum blocks arrive around every twelve seconds, but a deposit is credited on confirmations rather than on a single block, so the crypto leg usually runs to a few minutes. The banking leg afterwards takes moments.

What that means in practice is a range rather than a promise. The faster route delivers within minutes at any hour; the older one settles on a business-day cycle and does not process at weekends or on public holidays. Since you cannot tell in advance which will carry a given payout, allow a business day if the timing is tied to something.

Your bank will also have a view. Australian institutions set daily ceilings on faster transfers independently of anything applied at the Banxa end, and on a larger payout the bank's number is often the one that binds first. Most can be raised through online banking given a little notice.

Cost is carried inside the quoted rate rather than shown as a separate charge, and it holds both the spread and the conversion from US dollars into Australian dollars, since Ethereum is priced against the US dollar before it reaches any other currency. Gas to send the ETH is separate and paid on the crypto side.

Sales carry per-transaction ceilings and cumulative limits across rolling periods, varying with your verification level and your location. A first cash-out normally brings an identity check even for someone who has bought many times, and larger amounts bring questions about the origin of the funds.

Once the ETH reaches Banxa's address it is settled on Ethereum and cannot be recalled, which leaves the recovery boundary on the banking side. A payment sent to a wrong but valid account is recoverable only through your bank's own tracing process, which takes far longer than checking the digits beforehand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Gas on Ethereum is paid in ETH itself, so a transaction moving your entire balance has nothing left to cover the fee and will fail. Leave a margin behind whenever you send, and leave a larger one when the network is congested, because the fee rises with demand rather than staying at a fixed level.

It depends which network carries it, and that is not something you choose. Over the New Payments Platform the money can arrive within minutes at any hour, weekends included. Over the older direct entry system it clears on a business-day cycle instead, skipping weekends and public holidays. Plan for the slower route if a date matters.

It can. Australian institutions set their own ceilings on instant transfers and apply their own checks on incoming funds, both separate from any limit at the Banxa end. A larger payout can meet the bank's ceiling before it meets ours, and those limits are usually adjustable in online banking.
