What is XRP (PIX)

PIX is the instant payment system operated by Brazil's central bank, settling reais between accounts in seconds and running without pause. Selling XRP through it means Banxa buys your coins at a quoted rate and pushes the reais out immediately rather than into a queue.

The risk on this page sits almost entirely on the crypto side, which is unusual. Deposits of XRP to an exchange or payment provider normally require a destination tag, a short number identifying which account at the receiving address the funds belong to. Send without it, or with the wrong one, and the coins arrive at the address but not in your account. Recovery means a support case with no assured outcome.

The banking half, by contrast, is unusually forgiving. Payments are addressed by a PIX key rather than an account number, and entering a key resolves it to the registered account holder and shows that name before you confirm. A wrong key therefore appears as an unexpected name rather than as money disappearing.

That key can be a CPF, a mobile number, an email address or a random string issued by your bank. All of them point at the same account behind the scenes, so the choice makes no difference to how the payment behaves or how quickly it lands.

Two clocks run, and neither is long. XRP's ledger closes every three to five seconds and a deposit is final the moment it does, with no confirmation count to wait out. The reais leg that follows takes seconds as well, so a clean sale can finish inside a minute.

Business days play no part in this. PIX runs continuously, weekends and national holidays included, so there is no cut-off to miss and nothing held over until Monday morning. A sale confirmed on a Sunday night pays out on a Sunday night.

One constraint does apply after dark. Brazilian banks impose lower default PIX ceilings overnight, generally between eight in the evening and six in the morning, as a fraud control. A payout that would clear without comment in the afternoon can exceed that cap, so larger sales are more straightforward during the day.

Cost is folded into the quoted rate rather than itemised, and two things sit inside it: the spread on the sale, and the conversion from dollars into reais, since XRP is priced against the dollar before it reaches any other currency. XRP's own network fee is a tiny fraction of a coin.

Sales carry per-transaction ceilings and cumulative limits across rolling periods, both varying with your verification level and your location. A first cash-out normally brings an identity check even for someone who has bought plenty of times, and larger amounts bring questions about where the XRP came from.

Finality applies at both ends of this sale. Once the coins reach Banxa's address they are settled on their own network and cannot be recalled, and once the reais arrive PIX offers no ordinary reversal path either. Speed and finality come together here, which is why the key deserves a second look before you confirm rather than after.

Frequently Asked Questions

The XRP reaches the receiving address but is not credited to your account, because the tag is what tells the receiving system which account the funds belong to. Getting it back means opening a support case with no assured outcome. Copy the tag and the address together every time rather than treating the tag as an optional extra.

It shows you the registered holder's name before you confirm, which most payment rails do not. That makes a wrong key visible as an unexpected name rather than as money going astray. The account still has to be yours and match your verified Banxa details, but the error surfaces before anything moves.

Potentially under a minute. XRP's ledger closes every three to five seconds and PIX settles in seconds, so neither half carries a real wait. Barring a compliance review, this is among the quickest combinations available, and there are no business days or cut-off times to work around.
