What is USD Coin (SEPA)

SEPA moves euros between euro-area bank accounts, and it is how a USDC sale reaches your bank. Banxa buys your USDC at a quoted rate and sends euros on as a standard credit transfer. Because USDC tracks the dollar rather than the euro, there is a currency conversion sitting in the middle of this trade that does not exist when you sell a euro-priced asset.

The euros land in a euro account held in your own name, matching the name on your verified Banxa account. Payouts to a business account, a joint account in another name, or anyone else's account get rejected by the receiving bank. That single check causes more failed cash-outs than every other cause combined.

USDC exists on a long list of networks, and the network you send on matters more here than it does for a single-chain coin. Arbitrum, Base, Ethereum, Polygon, Optimism, Solana and several others are supported for selling, but the supported list is not the same in every country and it changes. Take the network from the quote screen rather than from memory, and never send on a chain the quote did not name.

Two clocks run. The first is the network's, and on most USDC chains it is short: Arbitrum and Solana confirm in seconds, Ethereum in minutes. The second is SEPA settlement at one to three business days, and it dominates the wait. Business days exclude weekends and bank holidays, so a Friday sale often shows up on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Cost is carried in the rate you are quoted rather than shown as a fee line. Two things sit inside it: the spread on the sale itself, and the dollar-to-euro conversion. The network fee to move your USDC is separate and comes out of the crypto side, which on Ethereum can be materially more than on Arbitrum or Polygon.

Per-transaction ceilings and rolling cumulative limits both apply, and crossing one usually triggers additional checks rather than an outright refusal. The figures that apply to your account appear at quote time and depend on your verification level and where you are selling from.

Selling for the first time brings an identity check, even for an account that has bought before. Larger sales add source-of-funds questions, and stablecoin cash-outs draw those questions at lower thresholds than you might expect, because the amounts tend to be round and the flows look like payments. Answering promptly keeps the payout on the short end of its range.

Failures cluster in two places. On the euro side it is the usual set: wrong IBAN, closed account, name mismatch, all of which end in a returned payment that takes days to unwind. On the crypto side it is sending on an unsupported network, which is the expensive one, because those funds are not recoverable through a support ticket.

Once the USDC reaches Banxa's address the transfer is settled on-chain and cannot be reversed. The recovery boundary from that moment sits entirely on the banking side of the trade.

A stablecoin does not remove price risk from this rail, it relocates it. Your euro figure is fixed at quote time, so the dollar peg is not the exposure. The exposure is that euros bought at today's dollar rate arrive in your account up to three business days later, and that rate was locked before the wait began.

Frequently Asked Questions

Several, including Arbitrum, Base, Ethereum, Optimism, Polygon and Solana, but the supported list varies by country and changes over time. The quote screen shows the networks available for your sale. Sending USDC on a network that was not offered is the one failure on this page that support cannot usually undo.

USDC tracks the US dollar, so selling it for euros involves a currency conversion. The euro figure you are quoted already includes that conversion along with the spread on the sale. It will not match a raw dollar-to-euro sum you work out elsewhere, because that sum leaves the spread out.

On the crypto side, usually yes: Arbitrum and Solana confirm in seconds where Bitcoin takes ten minutes a block. The bank side is unchanged. SEPA still takes one to three business days, and that is the part of the wait you feel, whichever asset you sold.
