What is USD Coin (Faster Payments)

Faster Payments moves pounds between UK bank accounts in seconds, day or night. Selling USDC through it means Banxa buys your coins at a quoted rate and sends sterling to your account over that network.

The pounds arrive in a UK account held in your own name, identified by a sort code and account number rather than the IBAN a euro transfer would use, and the name on it has to match your verified Banxa account. A payout aimed at a company account, or at an account in another person's name, is rejected by the receiving bank rather than held for review.

Confirmation of Payee applies to the sterling leg, so UK banks check the payee name against the name registered on the destination account, catching differences that would slip through in other countries. A name warning at that point is a stop signal rather than a formality to acknowledge and move past.

USDC is issued on a long list of chains, and the UK list is shorter than the European one. Arbitrum, Base, Ethereum, Polygon, Optimism, Solana, BNB Smart Chain and Avalanche are the versions commonly available to UK sellers. Several others that work elsewhere are restricted here. Take the network from your quote screen rather than from a list you used last month.

The clocks are both short, although the crypto one varies with your choice of chain: Arbitrum, Base and Solana confirm in seconds while Ethereum takes minutes, and Faster Payments then settles in seconds afterwards. There is no business-day count anywhere in that sequence, so a sale started on Saturday pays out on Saturday.

Cost sits inside the rate you are quoted rather than on a fee line. Two elements make it up: the spread on the sale, and the conversion from dollars to pounds. The network fee to move the USDC is separate, and it is far higher on Ethereum mainnet than on Arbitrum or Base.

Per-transaction ceilings and rolling cumulative limits both apply, and crossing one usually triggers further checks rather than a refusal. Your bank also sets its own Faster Payments receiving limit, often lower than the scheme permits, and a payment above it can be held at their end rather than ours.

A first sale brings an identity check even on an account that has bought before. Larger sales add questions about where the crypto came from, and answering those quickly is what keeps a payout quick.

On the sterling side, failures come from a wrong sort code or account number, a closed account, or a Confirmation of Payee mismatch, and a returned payment normally comes back quickly. On the crypto side, sending from an unsupported chain is the costly error, and support cannot usually recover those funds.

Once your USDC reaches Banxa's address the transfer is settled on-chain with no route to reverse it. Only the sterling leg remains correctable.

Holding a dollar stablecoin does not take currency risk out of a sterling cash-out. It prices that risk at the start instead. The pound figure is fixed when you accept the quote, using that moment's dollar rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Commonly Arbitrum, Base, Ethereum, Polygon, Optimism, Solana, BNB Smart Chain and Avalanche. The UK list is shorter than the European one, because availability is set per network and per country. Several versions that work elsewhere in Europe are restricted here, so check your own quote screen.

USDC tracks the US dollar, so a sale into pounds carries a currency conversion. The quote you are shown already includes that conversion and the spread on the sale. It will not match a raw dollar-to-sterling figure, because that figure omits the spread entirely.

A little. Arbitrum, Base and Solana confirm in seconds while Ethereum takes minutes. Faster Payments then settles in seconds regardless. The bigger difference between networks is the fee to move the coins, which is far higher on Ethereum mainnet than on the layer twos.
