Selling Polygon in Netherlands
Selling Polygon (POL, formerly MATIC) in the Netherlands follows the Box 3 framework, with the migration as the practical wrinkle.
Mechanics. Send POL or MATIC to a regulated platform, complete identity verification under MiCA and Dutch AML rules, agree on the sell rate in euros, choose a payout. The MATIC-to-POL migration ran through 2024-25 with one-to-one conversion. Most regulated platforms now require POL. Banxa accepts both during the transition window per regional rules.
Polygon is technically several chains (PoS, zkEVM, AggLayer); the chain matters for the deposit address. Network fees on PoS are fractions of a cent. SEPA bank transfer is the default.
Dutch income tax. Crypto held by individuals is generally captured under Box 3 at an assumed return rate above the heffingsvrij vermogen threshold based on holdings as of 1 January each year. The MATIC-to-POL migration's tax treatment in the Netherlands has not received specific guidance from Dutch tax authorities; under broader principles, holdings as of the relevant assessment date are what matter for Box 3. This is general information, not tax advice.
Regulatory framework. AFM supervises in the Netherlands; DNB oversees prudential and AML. Banxa Europe IV BV (EUIV) is Netherlands-domiciled.
Important information for retail customers in the EU. Crypto-assets are not deposits and are not covered by deposit-guarantee schemes. Authorisation of crypto-asset service providers under MiCA does not constitute an investor-compensation scheme and does not protect against price losses. Crypto prices can fall sharply, including to zero in some assets, and you can lose the full amount invested. Settlement of any sell order depends on identity verification, payment processing, and blockchain confirmation. The tax information on this page is general only and is not tax advice; rules depend on individual circumstances and may change. The Dutch financial markets authority (AFM) publishes consumer-facing information on crypto-asset risks for EU retail clients.

Frequently Asked Questions
The quote screen shows what the payout will be before you send the coins. From there you transfer your MATIC to the deposit address shown, wait for the network to confirm (Polygon fees are typically cents, so cost is trivial), and the euro payout then goes out by SEPA bank transfer on your bank's usual processing schedule.
The wallet your MATIC lives in, a photo ID for one-time verification (a few minutes for most sellers, then never again), and a euro bank account opened in your own name. Match the network to whatever the deposit screen specifies before sending, and copy the address rather than typing it; Polygon transfers are final once confirmed.
The euro side is the usual answer, since SEPA transfers move on bank processing times rather than around the clock. A payout account that does not match your verified name adds checks, and a deposit sent on an unexpected network needs support attention. Watch your MATIC arrive using the transaction hash on a Polygon explorer. Limits depend on payout method and verification level.
