Selling Polkadot in Netherlands
Selling Polkadot in the Netherlands follows the Box 3 framework, with bonding as the practical constraint.
Mechanics. Send DOT to a regulated platform, complete identity verification under MiCA and Dutch AML rules, agree on the sell rate in euros, choose a payout. Polkadot blocks finalise in around six seconds. SEPA bank transfer is the default; SEPA Instant in seconds where supported.
The bonding wrinkle. DOT held in nominator bonds, parachain crowdloans, or governance referenda is not transferable until unbonding completes. Nominator unbonding takes 28 days. Crowdloan locks unlock at the end of the parachain lease. Plan ahead.
Dutch income tax. Crypto held by individuals is generally captured under Box 3 at an assumed return rate above the heffingsvrij vermogen threshold. DOT staking, nomination, and crowdloan rewards may be captured within Box 3 or treated as Box 1 income depending on activity pattern. This is general information, not tax advice.
Regulatory framework. AFM supervises in the Netherlands; DNB oversees prudential and AML. Banxa Europe IV BV (EUIV) is Netherlands-domiciled and services Dutch customers under MiCA.
Important information for retail customers in the EU. Crypto-assets are not deposits and are not covered by deposit-guarantee schemes. Authorisation of crypto-asset service providers under MiCA does not constitute an investor-compensation scheme and does not protect against price losses. Crypto prices can fall sharply, including to zero in some assets, and you can lose the full amount invested. Settlement of any sell order depends on identity verification, payment processing, and blockchain confirmation. The tax information on this page is general only and is not tax advice; rules depend on individual circumstances and may change. The Dutch financial markets authority (AFM) publishes consumer-facing information on crypto-asset risks for EU retail clients.

Frequently Asked Questions
The quote screen displays the payout figure before you move any DOT. You send the coins to the deposit address, the network confirms them, and the euros follow by SEPA transfer; where your bank supports SEPA Instant, that leg takes seconds. One caveat: DOT that is bonded for staking must finish unbonding before it can be sent at all, so build that lead time into your plans.
Not until it unbonds. Only transferable DOT can be sent in for sale, so start unbonding ahead of when you want the euros. Alongside that you need photo ID for a one-time verification pass (usually minutes), and a euro bank account in your own name. Small detail: leave about 1 DOT behind if you want the sending address to stay active, as Polkadot addresses need that minimum balance.
Three things, in rough order: unbonding, if the DOT was staked, which has to complete before anything moves; the euro transfer, which follows your bank's processing schedule; and name mismatches, where the payout account does not match your verified identity. The deposit itself is visible on a Polkadot explorer via your transaction hash. Limits vary with payout method and verification level.
