What is Litecoin (NPP Direct Entry)

Australian dollar payouts take the form of a bank transfer to a BSB and account number, and two networks are available to carry one. The New Payments Platform settles in close to real time including outside banking hours; direct entry, the older system, settles across business days. Which one applies is decided by the route.

One Litecoin feature is worth checking before you send anything, because it affects where coins can move rather than what they are worth. The MimbleWimble extension block, activated in 2022, added an optional privacy layer, and a number of venues will not accept deposits originating from it. Coins held there may need moving to a standard address first, and finding that out after sending is the wrong order to do it in.

The money goes to an Australian dollar account held in your own name, addressed by a six-digit BSB identifying the bank and branch, followed by the account number. Both need to be exact, and an error in the account number is the more awkward of the two, since the payment can reach a genuine account rather than failing cleanly and coming straight back.

Routing works on those digits rather than on the account name, so the rule that the destination must be your own account comes from Banxa and is applied before the payment leaves. A transfer aimed at someone else's account is not permitted even where the receiving bank would post it without question.

Two clocks then run in sequence. Litecoin produces a block roughly every two and a half minutes, four times the pace of Bitcoin, so the confirmations a deposit needs arrive faster than they would on the older chain. The banking leg afterwards takes moments rather than days.

That produces a spread rather than a single figure. Routed over the newer network the payout can land within minutes at any hour; routed over direct entry it follows business days and skips weekends. Since the choice is made upstream, allow for the slower path whenever the date matters.

Your own bank sets a ceiling on what it will accept or release quickly, separate from any limit applied at the Banxa end. On a larger cash-out the bank's ceiling is frequently the first one you meet, and it can usually be raised through online banking if you handle it before the sale.

Cost is folded into the rate you are quoted rather than itemised separately, and it holds both the spread on the sale and the conversion from US dollars into Australian dollars, since Litecoin is priced against the US dollar before reaching any other currency. Litecoin's own network fee is small and paid out of the coins you send.

Sales carry per-transaction ceilings and cumulative limits across rolling periods, both varying with your verification level and your location. A first cash-out normally brings an identity check even for an established buyer, and larger amounts bring questions about where the Litecoin came from.

Once the coins reach Banxa's address the transaction has settled on Litecoin and cannot be recalled. On the banking side, a payment sent to a wrong but valid account is recoverable only through your bank's tracing process, which is considerably slower than checking the digits before you confirm.
