What is Litecoin (Faster Payments)

Faster Payments is the UK network banks use to move pounds in seconds, at any hour including weekends. Selling Litecoin through it means Banxa buys your LTC at a quoted rate and sends sterling to your account.

The pounds arrive in a UK account held in your own name, identified by sort code and account number and matching your verified Banxa details. Payouts aimed at a business account, or an account in another person's name, are rejected by the bank.

Confirmation of Payee applies to the sterling leg, so UK banks compare the payee name against the name registered on the destination account and catch differences that would pass unnoticed elsewhere. A name warning there is a stop signal rather than a prompt to continue.

Litecoin's own quirk stops more sales than anything on the bank side. Coins moved into a MimbleWimble extension block address sit in a privacy layer that many providers will not accept deposits from, and those addresses are recognisable by the ltcmweb prefix. Move the balance back to a standard Litecoin address before selling, or the funds can end up somewhere a support ticket cannot easily reach. Every other format is fine: legacy addresses, those beginning with M, and bech32 addresses beginning ltc1 all behave as ordinary Litecoin addresses for the purposes of a sale, and only the MWEB variant behaves differently.

Litecoin is the slower of the two clocks here. It produces a block every two and a half minutes, four times quicker than Bitcoin, and enough blocks are needed before the deposit counts as settled. Faster Payments then completes in seconds, so the chain is where the wait sits.

Cost is carried in the rate you are quoted rather than shown separately: the sterling figure displayed before you confirm is what lands. Litecoin network fees are low and come out of the coins you send.

Per-transaction ceilings and rolling cumulative limits both apply, and crossing one usually triggers further checks rather than a refusal. Your bank also sets its own Faster Payments receiving limit, often lower than the scheme permits, and a payment above it can be held at their end rather than ours.

A first sale brings an identity check even on an account that has bought before. Larger sales add questions about where the crypto came from, and answering those quickly is what keeps a payout quick.

On the sterling side the failures are a wrong sort code or account number, a closed account, or a Confirmation of Payee mismatch. Returned Faster Payments usually come back quickly rather than over days, though the sale has already priced at the original quote.

Once your Litecoin reaches Banxa's address it is settled on the network and cannot be reversed. Only the sterling leg remains correctable.

The exposure to name is confirmation time. Your sterling figure is fixed when you accept the quote, so the wait does not change what you receive, but the chain is the part that decides how long it takes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Usually not directly. MimbleWimble extension block addresses, which carry the ltcmweb prefix, sit in a privacy layer many providers do not accept deposits from. Move the balance back to a standard Litecoin address first, or the coins can end up stuck somewhere support cannot easily reach.

Legacy addresses, those beginning with M, and bech32 addresses beginning ltc1 all work normally for a sale. The MWEB format is the exception. If you are unsure which kind your wallet has given you, check the prefix before sending anything.

Minutes in total. Litecoin produces a block every two and a half minutes and needs a few before the deposit settles, then Faster Payments moves the pounds in seconds. The chain is the slow leg here, which reverses what most sellers expect from a bank transfer.
