What is Cardano (SEPA)

SEPA is the scheme euro-area banks use to move euros between accounts, and it is the route a Cardano sale takes to reach your bank. Banxa buys your ADA at a quoted rate and sends the euros on as a standard credit transfer, which your bank shows as an ordinary incoming payment.

The euros land in a euro account held in your own name and matching the name on your verified Banxa account. A transfer aimed at a business account, or at an account in a partner's name, gets rejected by the receiving bank rather than queued for review. More cash-outs fail on that check than on anything else.

Delegated ADA is the question most Cardano holders ask first, and the answer is straightforward. Delegating to a stake pool does not lock your coins or move them out of your wallet, so ADA you have delegated can be sent and sold at any time. You are not waiting on an unbonding period the way holders of some other assets are. Sending the coins ends their contribution to that pool from the next epoch.

Two clocks then run. Cardano produces a block roughly every twenty seconds, and Banxa waits for enough of them before treating the deposit as settled, which puts the crypto leg in minutes. SEPA settlement follows at one to three business days, and business days exclude weekends and public holidays, so a Friday sale often arrives on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The cost of the sale sits inside the rate you are quoted rather than on a separate line. The euro figure shown before you confirm is what reaches your account, and comparing it against the market price is how you read the spread. Cardano's own transaction fee is small and predictable, and it comes out of the coins you send.

Per-transaction ceilings and cumulative limits over rolling windows both apply. Crossing one normally prompts further checks rather than a refusal outright. The thresholds that apply to you are shown at quote time and follow your verification level and the country you are selling from.

Selling for the first time brings an identity check even on an account with a buying history, because money leaving the system carries obligations that money entering it does not. Larger sales add questions about where the ADA came from, and answering those quickly is what keeps a payout at the short end of its range.

Failures cluster on the euro side: a mistyped IBAN, an account that has been closed, or a name that does not match. Each ends with the bank returning the money, which then takes several days to work back and arrives as euros, not as ADA.

Once your ADA reaches Banxa's address the transaction is settled on the Cardano chain and cannot be reversed. From that point only the euro leg of the trade remains correctable.

The exposure to name here is time. Your euro figure is fixed the moment you accept the quote, so a later price fall costs you nothing, but the money sits in transit for days after a chain transfer that took minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Delegation on Cardano does not lock or transfer your coins, so delegated ADA stays spendable throughout. You can send and sell it whenever you choose, with no unbonding period to wait out. Moving the coins stops them counting towards that pool from the next epoch onwards.

Cardano confirmations take minutes, then SEPA settlement takes one to three business days. The bank leg is the slow part. Weekends and public holidays are excluded from that count, so a sale confirmed late on a Friday commonly reaches the account on Tuesday or Wednesday.

A mismatch at the receiving bank, almost every time. An IBAN with a wrong character, an account that has been closed, or a name that differs from your verified Banxa account will each trigger a return. The money comes back as euros over several days, not as ADA.
