What is Polkadot (ACH)

ACH is the batched dollar network American banks clear between themselves, and it is the ordinary way money leaves a crypto sale. Selling Polkadot through it means Banxa takes your DOT at a quoted rate and releases dollars into the next outgoing batch.

The timing constraint on this page is larger than anything the banking rail imposes. DOT bonded for staking cannot be moved until it has been unbonded, and that period runs for twenty-eight days. If your holding is staked and you want dollars this week, the arithmetic does not work. Nothing on the Banxa side can shorten it, so the unbonding has to start before you plan the sale rather than after.

Read that alongside the rail and the waits compound. Twenty-eight days of unbonding, then confirmation on Polkadot, then one to three business days of ACH settlement, and the rate is only fixed at the very end of that sequence. Anyone selling from a bonded position should count backwards from the date they need the money.

Dollars land in a US checking or savings account in your own name, addressed by routing number and account number. An error in the account number is worse than one in the routing number, since the credit tends to reach a live account somewhere rather than bouncing cleanly.

ACH does very little name checking. Credits post against the account number and many banks never compare the name beside it, so the restriction to your own account is Banxa's rule, applied before sending rather than caught by the bank afterwards.

Once the coins are free to move, Polkadot itself is quick. Blocks arrive around every six seconds and a deposit confirms in minutes, so the chain is never the slow part of an unstaked sale.

The banking side does not move continuously. ACH collects payments into files released in scheduled windows, so a sale confirming just after a cut-off waits for the next one, and Federal Reserve holidays close the network in the same way weekends do.

This rail also carries a failure that arrives late. A credit can post to your balance and then be returned days afterwards if the receiving bank rejects it, usually over a wrong account number or a closed account, which makes arrival provisional rather than final.

Cost is carried in the quoted rate rather than shown separately, so the dollar figure on screen before you confirm is the figure that lands, and comparing it against the market price is how you read the spread. Limits apply per transaction and over rolling periods, varying with verification level and location, and a first sale normally brings an identity check even for an established buyer.

Once the DOT reaches Banxa's address it is settled on Polkadot and cannot be recalled, putting the recovery boundary on the dollar side. Availability also differs by state rather than applying evenly nationwide, so treat the quote screen as the answer for where you are.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not until it has unbonded, and that takes twenty-eight days on Polkadot. Bonded coins cannot be moved at all during that window, and nothing at the payment provider's end can shorten it. If you know you will want dollars, begin unbonding well before you plan the sale rather than discovering the wait afterwards.

Add the stages together: twenty-eight days of unbonding, then a few minutes of confirmation on Polkadot, then one to three business days for ACH to settle. The rate is only fixed at the end, when you accept the quote, so the price you eventually get is not the one showing when you start unbonding.

It can, within a couple of banking days of posting, and the usual reasons are a wrong account number or an account that has closed. ACH differs from rails that refuse a payment up front: here the money can appear in your balance first and be pulled back afterwards, so check the details carefully.
